The big changes that have happened in our world during 2020 are creating trend changes in most industries. We predict there will be two clear paths emerging throughout 2021: those who scale back onto tight-knit groups and those wanting to celebrate BIG with everyone they care for. Within those paths we predict these wedding decorating trends emerging:
Local Is Lovely
It’s time to keep the love local. Use local markets and suppliers, use independent shops and local designers, buy local décor and stationery instead of imported options.
From caterers to photographers, invest in the local economy, reduce your carbon footprint and keep the safety of guests as a high priority.
Feature decor elements are going to be a favourite. Luxurious faux florals could be considered by those with tighter than expected budgets. The faux florals create a high impact and are cost-effective.
Statement pieces where guests can take selfies will be appreciated by guests. Think giant chandeliers, floral ‘waterfalls’, showpiece 12ft trees, themed photo areas and striking centrepieces.
Luscious cascading greenery will address the strong trend of biophilic design. Backdrops displaying masses of greenery will be part of a sophisticated wedding landscape. Think ferns, succulents, and all native greenery.
Greenery can be incorporated into almost any style of wedding, farmhouse, contemporary, industrial or palaces.
Sustainable / Eco Weddings.
Cutting back on unnecessary waste is vital and society is painfully conscious of its necessity. Wedding venues are coming to the party by doing their part in being greener, more sustainable, using locally sourced produce, native flowers, organic fruits, and ethical meats.
Wedding couples are focussing on upcycling and/or pledging to a commitment of zero waste. Offer your wedding flowers to good causes or go plastic-free on your big day and use stationery paper that has flower seeds embedded into it, bleach-free.
Grazing tables are quickly becoming popular in upcoming wedding plans. These can also serve as pre-or post-dinner food. With guest lists under 300 this year, people will have the time and space to mingle. Doing this at themed grazing tables, sourced locally, is a great ice-breaker.
Catering can be totally unique, from custom signature cocktails, multicultural canapés and old fashioned desserts. Think vegan food truck vendors, waffle bars, prosecco vans, retro-style gin bars, vintage ice-cream vans or picnic baskets.
Yes, we are all Zoomed-out but live streaming will involve loved ones who are overseas or are too high risk to attend.
The viewers can record it on their side as well which is a wonderful, unexpected value-add to have! So by the power of Zoom, everyone shall attend.
Experiences and, thus, experiential design is a fundamental element of all 2021 events including weddings.
The event is not rigid but curated towards entertaining guests’ through intrigue, involvement and emotional reactions. Always with safety being paramount.
Think: massive drone light show or, on the opposite end of the scale, think unexpected intimate solo performances by dancers or musicians.
